Automation rules will be amazing, once one fairly large missing feature is added.
Currently you can set up rules to move orders from pending to processing on a schedule, you can then set schedules to run pre set up advanced filters to create batch labels.
What is currently missing is the ability to update the packaging type before the labels are created. This means we can create batches of orders automaticlly but they will go in the box shipedge thinks is the best one. Most batches (i think this is probably true for most users) are filtered, then the packaging type is "bulk edited" to ensure the package is going into the correct box and gets the correct label.
A step needs to be added to allow packaging to be automatically updated prior to running the automated batch.
Hello and thank you for the feedback. Our team did review this and while it is an excellent idea it presents a number challenges with how to implement without conflicting with other existing system functions. Considering OMS exclusivity, packaging quantities, and the existing packaging suggestion functions are just a few.
We're going to archive this to keep it available for viewing and upvoting, however at this time we aren't considering it for development.
Understood, i am sure there are factors I don't know or understand but I would be hard pressed to believe many warehouses will be able to utilize this without this functionality. The primary reason is the packaging estimator its self has issues. We have exclusive packaging set up for Client A, yet ShipEdge suggests using that branded packaging for customer B & C orders as well. We have items that are set up that they should be shipped in an envelope but a box is suggested. It seems the current estimator is not fully communicating with the rest of the system. The function you have built is pretty final where it actually batched the orders and creates the label. If that label says to use a custom branded box that is set up in inventory for the wrong customer that would be pretty bad.
As for the issues that exist I am not sure i understand. You have a Bulk edit option that currently allows me to 1) Adjust orders regardless of OMS 2) Allows me to select a packaging type even if it is oversold according to the ShipEdge inventory 3) over write the packaging suggestion that ShipEdge has provided. I am not sure how you can automate the act of hitting the batch button but not the act of hitting the bulk edit button. Again this is about adding in another OPTION on the rules page. Users who are concerned about an over sold package being used would more than likely elect not to use that extra step and instead allow ShipEdge to pick their packaging.
You're right, there are improvements necessary to how packaging suggestion works, especially when it comes to OMS exclusivity. As it happens this was recently discussed and there is a development ticket in progress right now. We're targeting v11.3 for those improvements. If you're having issues where it should be selecting an envelope and it's not, I'd suggest submitting a support ticket for it to be further investigated.
While the bulk edit options are certainly there for users to manual execute, there are other technical and functional challenges that we have to consider when adding certain actions to the automation. Again, we aren't ruling out ever implementing this, just not in the near term.
I am following up to see if you have given any more thought to adding this as a step to automated rules .
This additional rule action is not something that we currently have planned. I'll bring this up with the team again to check on the feasibility of having package selection as an available action.
